Most businesses in Qatar run Meta Ads one of two ways. Either the ad opens a WhatsApp chat with the sales team, or it opens an instant form that collects a name and phone number. Both count as a lead in Ads Manager. They don't behave the same way at all.
Between November 2025 and October 2026, I ran 114 lead campaigns for Al Muftah Rent A Car branches, Al Muftah Garage and Al Muftah Homes. They used two kinds of ads: click-to-WhatsApp ads and lead form ads. When I put the two side by side, the gap was bigger than I expected.
What 114 campaigns showed about click-to-WhatsApp ads
All of these figures come straight from Meta Ads Manager, for lead campaigns in Qatar and Bahrain.
9,016 chats, 1,147 forms
Meta Ads Manager, 114 lead campaigns, Nov 2025 to Oct 2026- 10,163 leads in total, at an average of QAR 2.50 each
- 9,016 were WhatsApp chats started from click-to-WhatsApp ads
- 1,147 came from lead form ads
- The best campaign brought chats at QAR 1.26 each
- One campaign on its own started 662 chats
That's almost eight WhatsApp leads for every form. To be fair, this wasn't a controlled test. The campaigns had different brands, budgets and goals, so treat the ratio as a strong pattern rather than a rule.
Why click-to-WhatsApp ads work so well in Qatar
Four reasons stand out.
- People already live on WhatsApp. Messaging a business feels as normal as messaging a friend. Filling in a form feels like paperwork.
- A chat answers the real question. Most people want a price or availability: "Is there an SUV free this weekend?" A form can't answer that. A chat can, in a minute.
- It's quicker on a phone. Tap the ad, the message is already typed, press send. There's nothing to fill in.
- Your team gets a conversation, not just a number. They can send photos, a location pin or a quote, and book the customer while they're still interested.
A form lead is a name you have to call back. A WhatsApp lead is a customer who's already talking to you.
When lead form ads still make sense
WhatsApp isn't always the answer. Lead form ads are the better choice when:
- You need details before you can help. For property, knowing the area, budget and number of bedrooms first saves a lot of back and forth.
- Nobody can reply quickly. A form waits patiently. An unanswered WhatsApp chat goes cold within the hour.
- The sale happens on a call. For higher-value services, a booked call can work better than a chat.
- Leads need to go into a CRM. Form leads can flow into your CRM or email automatically.
If you're not sure, run both for two weeks and compare the cost per lead and, more importantly, how many of each turn into customers.
How I set up click-to-WhatsApp ads for WhatsApp leads
- Pick the right campaign goalUse a Leads or Engagement campaign with WhatsApp as the conversion location, and connect your business number to your Facebook page. Don't use Traffic. It optimises for clicks, not conversations.
- Write a pre-filled messageSomething like "Hi, I'm interested in the monthly rental deal". It makes the first tap easy, and your team instantly knows which ad the person came from.
- Give one clear reason to messageOne car, one service, one price. Posters that try to say everything get scrolled past.
- Set up the WhatsApp Business appA greeting message, quick replies for the top five questions, and labels such as New lead, Quoted and Booked. The WhatsApp Business app does all of this for free.
- Track what happens after the chatAds Manager counts conversations started. Your labels show which ones became customers. That second number is the one to optimise for.
Mistakes that waste WhatsApp leads
- Slow replies. The ad did its job. If nobody answers for three hours, the customer has already messaged someone else.
- No pre-filled message. Without it, you can't tell which ad or deal brought the chat.
- Copy-paste answers to every question. Quick replies should start the conversation, not end it.
- Judging ads only on cost per chat. A cheap chat that never books costs more than a pricier chat that does.
What this means for Meta Ads in Qatar
If you sell something people want to ask about before they buy, which is most local businesses here, start with click-to-WhatsApp ads and make sure someone is ready to reply. Add instant forms when you need details up front or can't answer chats quickly.
And if people already search Google for what you sell, ads there can catch them at the moment they're ready. I compare the two on my Google Ads expert in Qatar page.
